Homemade Hand Sanitizer

A bit on hand sanitizers. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap. According to the CDC this is more effective than hand sanitizers. However, hand sanitizers have their place and are useful, but NOT as a substitute for careful hygiene and washing.

According to the CDC the alcohol in hand sanitizers must be at least 60% strength. So liquors are not a viable option. (Remember "proof" is double the alcohol percentage. So 80 proof is 40%.)
You can buy 70% - 99% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) at your local pharmacy. According to the CDC this works.

Making hand sanitizer is simple:

2 parts alcohol to one part alovera. Mix it up smooth and you are done.

It might not be a bad idea to let it sit for two days to kill any potential spoors or biological contaminants. Also, feel free to add some essential oils for a better fragrance.

I like simple.
